Proactive planning is the key to a successful organization…

Lightning, floods, and hurricanes are natural disasters that need proper planning to overcome, but there are many events that may classify a technology disaster. Hardware failure, system attacks, and even the loss of passwords are examples of events that can adversely effect production and need action steps to be defined in a company’s operations manual.

The operations manual provides a detailed description of the system workflow and processes including reaction steps to certain failures. It details planned steps to protect technology assets during a disaster and can even include moving the base of operations to a temporary location if necessary. Severe weather events such as a flood, hurricane, or ice storm can cause property damage and bring power outages that last days or even weeks.

Today’s technology has expanded the reach of most companies outside the boundaries of their immediate location and will need to continue business even if their area is affected by a disaster.  Many companies that have remote locations over a network will need to remain active while the primary location is not available. There are a lot of technology choices available such as supplemental power and high availability that can maintain service availability through a disaster.

Documenting critical system information reduces the impact to the organization in the event you lose key staff. Most managers have little knowledge about the operation of their information systems, and an abrupt loss of an employee can be hard to overcome. Even with advanced notice of a separation, there is generally not sufficient time to transfer knowledge and train a new employee.

KNS will document your procedures and critical information in an operations manual that details action steps during all types of disaster events. We evaluate the requirements of your organization and give you all the steps needed to get you where you want to be. At the end of the day you will feel comfortable with the knowledge your assets are protected by proven techniques that have been tested to see you through a variety of disasters.
