  Server Platform Options

There are many choices available when it selecting a server platform ranging from small business to enterprise solutions.

Windows Server 2003 Standard

Windows Server 2003 Small Business

Windows Server 2003 is the most productive infrastructure platform for powering connected applications, networks, and Web services from the workgroup to the data center. Designed for small organizations and departmental use, Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, delivers intelligent file and printer sharing, secure Internet connectivity, centralized desktop policy management, and Web solutions that connect employees, partners, and customers.

Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, provides high levels of dependability, scalability, and security.

Small businesses are doing more with less in today's business environment. Information technology (IT) professionals can help small businesses do more by deploying Windows Small Business Server 2003 to provide security-enhanced, reliable IT infrastructure.

Windows Small Business Server 2003 provides a complete business server solution with messaging and collaboration, security-enhanced Internet access, protected data storage, reliable printing, the ability to run line-of-business applications, and faxing. And its end-to-end administration features help technology providers set up, run, and maintain their networks productively and efficiently.

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4

Designed for medium to large businesses, Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, is an operating system for servers running applications such as networking, messaging, inventory, and customer service systems; databases; and e-commerce Web sites. Enterprise Edition delivers high reliability, performance, and superior business value and is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. It offers support for high-performance servers and can be used to cluster servers for greater load handling. These capabilities provide reliability that helps ensure systems remain available--even if problems arise.

The Enterprise Edition includes new features and improvements that render it the most dependable, enterprise-ready server operating system Microsoft has ever created. Key technologies introduced in Windows 2000 Server have been enhanced, including network load balancing, server clusters, and the Active Directory service. Active Directory is now faster and more robust over unreliable wide area network (WAN) connections, thanks to more efficient synchronization and replication as well as credential caching in branch office domain controllers.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4, released in February 2005, provides significant technology enhancements over the v.3 release. Areas of specific development include improvements in security capabilities, increased server performance and scalability, and enhanced desktop capabilities—all while ensuring a high level of compatibility with prior releases. Red Hat Enterprise Linux supports a wide range hardware and software applications, and is the world's leading enterprise-focused Linux environment.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4 provides the most stable and robust commercial product based on the Linux community's 2.6.9 kernel. Open source projects such as Fedora provided an environment for the Linux 2.6 kernel to mature significantly during 2004. As a result, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4 kernel offers numerous improvements over earlier kernels, including many enhanced algorithms and features.

Numerous enhancements have been incorporated into Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4 that improve the scalability and performance of the data storage subsystems.
